At 1,949 metres, Pico de las Nieves crowns Gran Canaria and offers an unrivalled 360‑degree panorama across the island to neighbouring Tenerife.

Some call it the roof of Gran Canaria, and with good reason: Pico de las Nieves is the island’s highest point. It’s an easy summit to reach by car, yet the sense of arrival remains dramatic. From the viewing platforms, your gaze sweeps over deep ravines, pine forests and out towards the Atlantic. On clear days you can spot Teide rising from neighbouring Tenerife, a reminder of the archipelago’s shared volcanic heritage.

While many visitors come for the sunset — when the sky glows pink and Roque Nublo casts a long shadow — the area is also great for hiking. Trails weave through forests of Canary pine and across ridges where wildflowers bloom in spring. In winter, the peak occasionally lives up to its name as the "snowy summit" when a light dusting of snow appears, a rare spectacle in the subtropics. Bring a jacket even in summer; the air is noticeably cooler up here.

Standing on Pico de las Nieves feels like hovering above a miniature continent, with all of Gran Canaria spread out like a map below your feet.
